Externally-fed or internally-fed rotary drums are available. The former uses a slot tube with FOTI filtration and is available in diameters up to 1600mm. In case of an internally fed construction a cylinder is used, equipped with a transportation screw.

In case of an externally fed drum the liquid to filter is fed at the top of the rotating drum. The filtrate flows twice through the drum, while the filtered solids remain at the outside of the drum and are removed by a scraper.
